A day in the life of a treatment room nurse

8am – The day begins

You arrive, grab a coffee, and check the treatment room list. A mix of wound care, dressings, injections, ECGs, and the odd urgent walk-in. You set up your room, knowing no two days here are ever the same—and that’s exactly how you like it.

8.15am – First patients

A familiar face comes in for a chronic wound dressing. You know their story, their worries, and what works best for them. This role is about skill, yes—but also about trust and continuity of care.

Mid-morning – Variety is the norm

Bloods, B12s, cervical screening, childhood immunisations, a quick ECG, followed by a reassuring chat with someone who’s nervous. You’re autonomous, supported, and respected for your clinical judgement. GPs are nearby if needed, but you’re confidently running your own clinic.

1pm – Pause and reset

Lunch break. You actually get one. You chat with colleagues, share a laugh, maybe swap stories from the morning rush.

Afternoon – Problem-solving mode

An urgent dressing change, a patient who needs calm reassurance, a wound that needs reviewing and planning. You document carefully, communicate clearly, and advocate for your patients every step of the way.

6pm – Wrapping up

You restock, tidy your room, and leave knowing you made a real difference today. You didn’t just “get through tasks”—you delivered care that mattered.
